New Year’s Resolutions – I don’t think I’ve ever made one in my life.
Sleeping if Off
I’m not certain as to why, but I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s Eve. Perhaps it is because we were in the restaurant business for so many years. We always had to work our tails off on that day. Or, maybe it’s because it seems to be an excuse to go out and drink beyond the point of reason. The noise, the craziness, the crowds (I hate crowds) or just the pure insanity of it has never appealed to me. But, I guess that may be exactly why the holiday appeals to so many. And really, New Year’s Eve isn’t the holiday, right? Isn’t it New Year’s Day that is the holiday? You know the day when everyone is sleeping it off?
New Year’s Resolutions
If I really need to make some changes – hence a list of resolutions – shouldn’t I already be working on said changes? Why wait until the start of the new year? I think this is where the art of self-deception takes hold. According to USA.gov, the top New Year’s resolutions are as follows:
- Lose Weight
- Volunteer to Help Others
- Quit Smoking
- Get a Better Education
- Get a Better Job
- Save Money
- Get Fit
- Eat Healthy Food
- Manage Stress
- Manage Debt
- Take a Trip
- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
- Drink Less Alcohol
It’s fascinating, isn’t it – if one really feels the need to make 1 or more of these changes, one should kick it up a notch and get going! Why fool oneself into thinking the new year will bring about the change?
If I were going to make a list of resolutions, which I’m not about to start now, my list would remind me to be more patient and remember to live in the moment. Simple and on point.
I love the holiday season; Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and yes, even New Year’s Day, but when it comes to New Year’s Eve and making resolutions I say, “Bah-Humbug!”
Who’s with me on this?!
New Years has to be the biggest anti-climax when attempting to celebrate it in big style. Usually me and Kel take ourselves far away from the craziness and hire a little cottage for a few days. There is no big build up to midnight, just a relaxed few days!
As for resolutions, Kel asked me about this the other day. I had barely thought about it. Maybe New Years is a psychological kick up the backside that some people need, which is fair enough, but I think having a positive outlook on like throughout the year helps 🙂

I’m with ya, Rob! Tomorrow night we will cozy up in our hotel room and probably fall asleep before midnight! 😉
I agree Patti – why wait till the beginning of a new year to make positive changes in your life? I’ve never made a new year’s resolution myself although at one time or another I’ve tried to achieve nearly all the things on that top 10 list!

Here’s to safe travels and only the best in 2014! Cheers, Amy!
I’m rarely awake to greet the New Year, or at least for the last several decades. And I have Never made a resolution for a new year. I’m with you on constantly working on being in the moment and doing what I can for others.

Good to know I’m not the only one who is usually asleep before the New Year rings in!
New Year’s Eve was a blast when I was a kid up until about 15 years old. My dad would buy me a couple of the frozen boxes of pizza rolls. I would bake and devour them while watching either a movie or a college football game. Since I’ve been 18 years old I’ve never once attended a party on New Year’s Eve. I’ve been either working or volunteering through the said employer babysitting the ding dongs and/or picking up the “mess” they’ve left. Resolutions. Folks need to make changes “today” not by some calendar inspiration. Cut and dry. A very safe Happy New Year’s to you and Abi! 🙂

Completely agree about making changes today, not according to the calendar. Happy New Year to you Mike, and of course to Phoenix as well, and thank you for the continued support and friendship!
