Each year for the past several years I’ve published a list of Christmas quotes; a list of inspiration if you will. It’s no surprise that I think the past couple of years, in particular, have found many of us in need of a little extra dose of holiday inspiration; something to help us find joy in the moment while we hold on to hope for the future.
Maybe some sort of Christmas miracle? Or, at the very least a beautiful Christmas melody to make us smile and cry with emotion at the same time. Take a few minutes and listen until the end, I promise it will touch your heart.
And with that little musical fanfare, here it is, the 4th 5th 6th annual posting of a few of my favorite Christmas quotes from a few of my favorite people. I hope at least one of them will make you smile, warm your heart or remind you of a Christmas past. And, please, spread a little holiday cheer by adding your favorite quote to the list in a comment below.
“Teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.” Zuzu Bailey – “It’s a Wonderful Life”
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!” ― Dr. Seuss
“Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.” ― Charles M. Schulz
“One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don’t clean it up too quickly.” ― Andy Rooney
“I believe… I believe… It’s silly, but I believe.” – Susan, “Miracle of 34th Street”
“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.” ― Laura Ingalls Wilder
~ Wishing you the very best of the season ~

Dr. Seuss and I are on the same page. Merry Christmas Patti and Abi.
Merry Christmas to you, Suzanne and Malcolm.
What a warm, fuzzy Christmas message. Well Patti, that is how this lovely post left me feeling. I really enjoyed all the quotes. At first I thought I liked Bob Hope’s best. But… I reread them (you got me in) and decided they are all great.
I feel the same way, Estelle. I think one of them is my favorite and then decide I love them all equally. I’m glad our little Christmas message gave you the warm fuzzies!
I still want to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra in person some day!!! 🙂 🙂
You and me both, Mike! I love, love, love, this little clip of the children singing. Glad to have you back with us!
Patti, thank you for reposting these lovely quotes. I guess for you and Abi this Christmas will take a whole new meaning with the grandbaby bringing so much happiness to you all? Have a good one 🙂
Thank you, Gilda. Yes, we are so enjoying our grandbaby. He’s 8 months this Christmas so he doesn’t know what’s going on, but next year will be the year he really engages.
It’s been years since I’ve lived in a place that gets the winter chill and snow that symbolizes Christmas and it’s still a little difficult to get into the seasonal spirit without them. However, checking out the Christmas decorations and displays, the lights, and the multiple festivals and traditional celebrations around the Algarve at this time of year helps. Next year, you might want to time your Portugal life with a visit from the elves. Sending a hug and a wish for Happy Holidays your way, Patti and Abi!
In 2017, Anita, we were in Porto from October to December 23, which is when we flew back to the US. We loved being in Porto in December. It was cold but not freezing so it felt a bit Christmasy and I don’t think we’ve ever seen a city that put up SO many Christmas lights. It was beautiful and so festive, along with the chestnut sellers on every corner. And, the city puts on a great fireworks display which we got to see. We loved it.
Here we go again Patti…another lovely Christmas coming our way and lots to look forward to in 2018. Enjoy the celebrations with your family
One of the things I’ve appreciated most about living away from the US is missing the Christmas Carols that start in October, the relentless commercials to buy more and the Salvation Army Santa Clauses at all the stores that make me feel guilty. However, Grinch that I am, I do get a warm feeling of nostalgia on Christmas Eve and day. Here’s my quote that kind of sums up that fuzzy feeling and might be especially true this year, “Christmas is the keeping-place for memories of our innocence.” Joan Mills.
Enjoy your holidays, the time with your family, and nourish that warm fuzzy glow, Patti and Abi!
The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. Burton Hills. Have a great Christmas Patti
Thanks for the share, Gilda. Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Patti. I’ve never heard the Canon played as Christmas music. It is so lovely. That was the song I walk to when Dave and I were married. Always has a special place in my heart.
Have a wonderful, peaceful holiday. Linda
I didn’t know that. Thank you for sharing such a sweet memory.
I love them all, especially Andy Rooney! Happy Holidays!!
Mary and the professor
Hi Mary – so good to hear from you. Happy Holidays!
From CA. A cold night last nite but you warmed my heart with this wonderful Christmas post. Tears flowed from memories of Christmas past. So many are gone from my life but my memories are dear to me. Thank you for a beautiful post. And I loved reading all the lovely Christmas wishes from you followers. And as I add mine to the list Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Holiday wishes for all who may venture to read my post.
Thank you, Diane. It’s a gift to have you in our lives. Happy Holidays!
Love the quotes especially Andy Rooney.

Have a wonderful holiday season.

Happy Holidays, Peta, Andy Rooney was a treasure, we always loved his stories at the end of the 60 Minutes each week.
I don’t have any heartwarming Christmas quotes but for years our holiday celebrations began with baking cookies and watching, “A Christmas Story.” Each time our son would mention something else to be added to Christmas list we’d say “You’ll shoot your eye out!” no matter what the request was. Enjoy your family and the holidays, make a cup of hot chocolate and watch a rerun of the movie, Patti and Abi. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Anita
I had to laugh when I read your comment as “A Christmas Story” is my all-time favorite Christmas movie. I can pretty much recite it line-by-line I’ve watched it so many times. It’s such a reminder of days gone by. Love it!
Patti, Thank you for the quotes, I loved them all. Merry Christmas to you and Abi. We are off to Scotland, driving from the South of England all the way up, tomorrow morning, the forecast is for rain and strong winds. Not looking forward to the journey but will be nice to see the family. Have a great time with your family.

Well, there’s always Bah Humbug! But then old Scrooge changes, too. So Merry Christmas one and all.
Love Sandy
Merry Christmas, Sandy, we are thinking of you and holding you in our hearts.
Christmas is a religious feast to me. Therefore, a quotation about Jesus is the one that comforts me:
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
to give his people the knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.
(Luke 1, 76-79)
Marry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Agata.
The Dr. Suess quote resonated with me this year Patti. Being away from home an away from working retail really helped me focus on the true spirit of Christmas. I hope you had a great Christmas and I can’t wait to read about your adventure in 2015! We will be traveling throughout Europe at that time to. Maybe we will meet on the road, that would be amazing:)

Nice thoughts, Patti — and a beautiful photo. Sometimes it’s nice to see the Capitol without protesters or politicians in front of it. Enjoy this time with your loved ones—and welcome to the east coast.

Yes, the capital building is so pretty and I never get tired of looking at it, especially at dusk when the lights come on. Merry Christmas Suzanne and to Mr. Excitement as well!
Such a lovely, simple holiday message, Patti.
Indeed, “in spirit…become a child again.” And here I thought I was a bit pathetic for filling my own childhood Christmas stocking with tangerines and chocolate last night (it’s already Christmas morning here in Thailand).

“Karen: So what’s this big news, then?
Daisy: [excited] We’ve been given our parts in the nativity play. And I’m the lobster.
Karen: The lobster?
Daisy: Yeah!
Karen: In the nativity play?
Daisy: [beaming] Yeah, first lobster.
Karen: There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus?
Daisy: Duh.”
