Retirement & Travel Tips

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.”  Jim Rohn

Got-a-Plan

We like to think believe we’ve learned a few things over the 39 years we’ve traveled this life together.  We’ve had some hits, some misses, but we’ve found our way through and we learned many lessons along the way.  We created this page of resources for you the reader, the retiree, the traveler and the just plain interested.  These are the resources that help us do what we do, along with a few of our posts we’ve shared along the way.

~ Our Go-To Resources ~

Two of our posts offering a few tips on staying aware while traveling: Educated, Not Paranoid and The Electronic Pickpocket.

Our most favorite travel guru:  Rick Steves.  I can’t tell you how often we refer to Steve.  I also like Samantha Brown because she is so seemingly down to earth and keeps it real in her reviews.

We love our hotel points program with Hilton Honors and American Express.  When we can’t use our American Express card we use our VISA Explorer Card and earn United Airline miles.   To make the programs work for us, we rarely pay cash for anything.  Here’s a couple of posts explaining how we take full advantage of the programs.  It’s Like Airline Miles, Only Better and Will the Points Programs Work For You?

Always a good read, Joe Hearn, who writes Intentional Retirement, shares his knowledge about retirement and financial planning.

Here’s our post about all things Social Security.  Even if you’re not quite ready to retire, it’s a good idea to start lining up a few of your ducks.  And here is our post about navigating the Medicare Maze.

Here’s our post detailing How to Survive a Timeshare Pitch.  By the way, these can be great deals if you’ve got the patience to sit through the sales pitch.

Rome2rio is by far one of my favorite sites for figuring out how to get from point A to point Z.

We discovered Booking.com while walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain.  It is our go-to resource for booking a room when we’re looking outside of our points program.
