Rick Steves Travel Guru

Rick Steves is our go to travel guru for all things related to travel in Europe.  What I especially love about his abundance of practical tips is the fact that I can find anything I need on his website.  Our practice is to travel light, so no books allowed.

While in Porto, Portugal several years ago we were looking for best tips for eating with the locals… as well as best eats in Porto.  Rick never disappoints.  He referred us to Abadia do Porto, which is now one of our top 3 restaurants in Porto.  Thank you, Rick!

Travel and Art

Travel and art are synonymous.  The best thing about art is that you don’t need to be an expert to appreciate it, nor do you have to fall in love with everything you see.  What one person finds stunning and fascinating may leave the next person shaking their head.

Some of the most beautiful art we’ve come across in Europe was not in museums.  We’ve seen magnificent works of art in cathedrals, palaces, and municipal buildings to name just a few, and quite often we found them at Rick’s suggestions.

Rick Steves and Avalon Travel

We are super excited to partner with Avalon Travel in giving away two copies of Rick Steves Europe’s Top 100 Masterpieces.  I am slowly savoring each page as I make my way through this beautiful 278-page book. So far, my favorites include The Lady and the Unicorn Tapestries because we’ve been fortunate enough to see them in person while in Paris.  The tapestries are magnificent so it’s wonderful to revisit them through the pages of the book.
