I recently wrote a poem (kind of) about my love of fall and I titled it Falling. You can read it here, if you’d like. Sometimes, words just aren’t necessary. Here is a small sampling of what fall looks like in the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon; it is a feast for your eyes.
I carry a camera with me at all times these days, I just can’t seem to capture enough photos. Just when I think I’ve seen all of the colors I’ll turn the corner and come across a spectacular burst of orange or red or gold… it’s Mother Nature at her finest. We consider ourselves fortunate to be living in an area with 4 distinct seasons, even though the winter months can be super cold. But with winter comes hot chocolate and Molasses cookies, so it’s not all bad. What about where you live, do you enjoy 4 distinct seasons?
Patti, wow, all that color is stunning. As you know we’re in Mexico, and these days I am really missing seasons. Maybe not winter but definitely fall…scarves, seeing my breath in the, hiking on a crisp day, feeling cozy inside, coffee drinks, etc. Basically everything but socks. I will never miss those…

No socks, huh? The colors are gorgeous here and you listed all of my fall favorites. Sadly, though, I suspect we’re going to head into an early winter because we’re already getting nights that freeze.
ooh that looks so beautiful, love all those colors. Gorgeous photos

Thank you Freya – we do see amazing color here!
I love the fall colors! I’m hoping we get some good views here in the northeast this year, last year it seemed like the leaves got knocked down by storms before they could really get exciting.

That’s exactly what happening here – rain and wind are blowing area all of our beautiful colors. I think we’re heading into an early winter this year. ::sigh:: Thanks so much for reading, Jess!
I always loved fall in the Pacific NW. Thanks for sharing some beautiful photos.

You’re welcome Kerri – gives you a little remembrance of Portland!
Nice to see some red in your photos. I don’t think of southern Oregon as being as colourful as you’ve shown me it is. Enjoy the rest f the fall.

There are a lot of misconceptions about southern Oregon – how hot it can be in the summer, cold in the winter, etc., a lot of people are surprised when they visit, but it is a beautiful part of the country. Thanks so much for reading, Leigh!
so colourful!
They are – so pretty to see in person! You’ll have to visit one day!
Oh my! the colours remind me of ripen fruits! yum!

That’s a great analogy! Pictures don’t even begin to capture the depth and range of the colors – they’re gorgeous in person!
Patti, the leaves are turning and not turning in the strangest cycle this year. And no surprise with our crazy weather around the planet. Only a few trees have turned here and I was just noticing that at the park today! Fall colors are sooooo gorgeous and this reminds me about my trip I want to take through the Northeastern states someday. But, with Ashland so close Phoenix and I should make a road trip!! 🙂 Absolutely fantastic photos!

Thanks Mike! I too would love to take a road trip through New England in the fall. Our fall colors burst early this year – I think we’re heading into an early winter as we’ve already had a few nights with freezing temps. I’m in no hurry for winter, I want to enjoy fall for as long as possible.
We have 4 seasons in the Delaware Valley (Philadelphia and environs), but you seem to be ahead of us in foliage. I admit that winter is starting to wear thin for me and the summers can be oppressively hour and humid, aahhh, spring and fall are sublime.

Our foliage burst early this year – we had some early cold days and a few freezing nights so it just seemed to burst overnight. I fear we’re in for an early winter ::sigh:: I am not a big fan of winter’s cold days but I’ll take them over the “suck the life out of you” hot summer days! I sneeze my way through spring so although I appreciate the change of seasons, spring is not fun for me. It’s no big mystery why I am such a huge fan of fall!
I miss fall colors- one of the few things we’re missing in Santa Fe along with the ocean.
